Reading the pages of the Book of Acts, we are immediately confronted with the fact that the apostles and the Church were on a radical mission, fueled by a radical power, and achieving radical results for the glory of God.

We are also confronted with the fact that most Christians and churches lack the radical power and connection with God that is portrayed in Acts.  How can we get this back?  Are we willing to let the Holy Spirit lead us into new adventures for the glory of God?  If so, what does it look like in our culture?

Daniel is a truly unique book.  His life is one of true devotion to God and integrity of character in the midst of one of the most wicked civilizations ever.  Yet, he was able to take a stand for God while obtaining the respect of the rulers of the Babylonian and Medo-Persian empires.  Daniel’s integrity serves as an inspiration (and a challenge) to us all.

Further, Daniel offers perhaps the most sweeping prophetic vision of human history in the entire Bible.  This message is a revelation to us — it shows us where we are in human history and what is coming.  This perspective is a great comfort to us because it is tangible proof that God is in control.

John’s epistles contain a TON of valuable information for believers. As we go through these books, it is important to remember that John was probably closer to Jesus than all the other disciples. John’s Gospel focuses on the love of Jesus and the fact that God loves us and had a plan for us from eternity past. And the final book of our Bible, the Book of Revelation, reveals God’s plan for us in eternity future. But, we find ourselves here, between eternity past and eternity future; we face the struggle and hardship associated with living day-to-day.

John calls us to “live in the Light” of God’s Love: to embrace the truths of God, and to live holy lives. As a result of that, we begin to experience true fellowship with other believers.

Colossians: The Centrality of Christ

Colossians is considered to be a ‘sister’ book to the Epistle to the Ephesians. Where Ephesians addresses the relationship between Christ and the Church, Colossians emphasizes the relationship between Christ and the individual believer.  Colossians is also very applicable to us today because this was a letter that Paul wrote to a church of Gentile believers – a church that he did not plant, comprised of people that he had never met, and dealing with mindsets that we face today.  In other words, if Paul were to write a book to us, it would be very similar to the book of Colossians.

The Book of Esther

Esther is in incredibly interesting book. It has all of the ingredients of a modern-day thriller: deception, intrigue, espionage, sex, and violence. But it is most known for what is lacking: the name of God. For this reason, some scholars have gone so far as to suggest that Esther should not be part of the Bible.

But, what we discover in a careful examination of the book, is that God is there. He is working behind the scenes to protect His people, and He does this in some very interesting ways.

The Book of Nehemiah

Nehemiah is a great book for us. It focuses aspects of leadership, honor, integrity, and determination — all under the direction of God. Furthermore, it encourages us to recognize that when God is behind something — and when we are willing to work — anything can be accomplished.

Nehemiah also has some solemn warnings for those who profess to serve God as well as for men who seek (or fail) to lead their families.

Victory can be won. The enemy can be defeated. The path is paved with prayer, planning, action, determination, humility, repentance, and remembering what God has done.
